Residential Program

Bel Aire Recovery Center’s Residential Treatment for Addiction Center in Kansas provides a safe, structured environment for men and women struggling with substance use disorders to begin their journey of transformation.

Bel Aire Recovery Center understands that no two people have an identical experience with addiction, so we don’t expect everyone to enter into recovery the same way. We take the time to develop a personalized treatment approach that considers your physical, emotional, psychological, social, and family needs.

Residential treatment at BARC includes structured activities and electives throughout the day, evening, and weekend. We know that the first few days of treatment may be filled with doubts, fears, and the physical symptoms of cravings. This is why we provide support staff 24 hours a day to be with you when these feelings emerge during the off-therapy and nighttime hours.

The experienced staff at our center in Kansas knows that drug addiction has both physiological and psychological causes and symptoms. Using one-on-one therapy, group counseling, and holistic means, we address these causes and teach our clients how to recognize and handle relapse triggers.

What are the Benefits of Residential Treatment for Addiction?

One of the many advantages of seeking treatment for a substance use disorder in a residential addiction treatment center like Bel Aire is that our clients are given the opportunity to step away from the day-to-day pressures and habits that may be fueling their addiction.

Some of the key benefits of Residential Treatment for Addiction:

  1. Structured Environment: Residential treatment provides a controlled environment that minimizes distractions and triggers. This helps individuals focus on their treatment and recovery without the worries or influences of their home environment.
  2. 24/7 Supervision and Support: Clients in residential treatment receive round-the-clock supervision and support from trained professionals, ensuring safety and immediate assistance in times of crisis.
  3. Comprehensive Assessment: A thorough assessment is conducted at the start of treatment, allowing for a personalized treatment plan that addresses the individual’s specific needs and issues.
  4. Intensive Therapy: Residential treatment typically offers multiple therapy sessions per week, including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and specialized therapeutic modalities. This intensity can accelerate the therapeutic process.
  5. Peer Support: Clients in residential treatment live with others who are going through similar challenges. This peer support fosters a sense of camaraderie and understanding, reducing feelings of isolation.

Long Lasting Recovery

Our clients learn recovery skills that they will use long after their time at a substance abuse and addiction rehabilitation facility ends. Some of these skills include:

  • Noticing and identifying triggers: substance use triggers can be external (maybe you get in the habit of drinking to excess every payday to reward yourself for your hard work) or internal (maybe you get in the habit of turning to drugs anytime you feel an unpleasant emotion like sadness or anger). BARC empowers our clients to recognize these triggers and take steps to avoid them.
  • Learning and practicing coping skills: therapy with our professional counselors helps clients learn about the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and actions. With an understanding of how those things are connected, you will be better able to find solutions to problems as they arise.
  • Strengthening positive self-talk: by getting your inner voice firmly on your side, you have a much better chance of maintaining your recovery. In treatment, you will learn strategies for changing the attitude of your inner critic.
  • Using the power of choice: entering treatment is a choice you can make. And once you are in treatment, you will be reminded of how important your everyday choices can be to maintaining your sobriety. Reclaiming your ability—and responsibility—to make good choices is empowering.
  • Rebuilding community and relationships: restoring relationships with family and friends can be an extremely important part of recovery because a strong support system is essential to staying sober. In treatment, you will learn how to approach mending broken relationships and how to contribute to your larger communities in ways that will support your recovery.
  • Celebrating achievement and accomplishment: although past celebrations may have been fueled by drugs or alcohol, you will be encouraged to think about ways to celebrate success that will be meaningful to you—and not threaten your sobriety.

The goal of our substance use disorder treatment services is to offer the best possible outcomes for our clients. We do this by staying abreast of the newest trends and research in addiction treatment and incorporating those changes into our best practice.

Residential Treatment for Addiction Program Elements

After completing a comprehensive assessment by our multidisciplinary clinical team, you will work with a counselor to develop a personalized treatment plan. This residential drug rehab treatment plan will completely address your emotional and physical health, as well as family support, nutritional guidance and spirituality. Some of the ways we address these needs are through:

Group Therapy

Group TherapyGroup therapy is a form of psychotherapy where a small group of people, typically guided by one or more therapists, meet regularly to discuss and explore their issues, experiences, and emotions. It offers a supportive environment where individuals can share personal stories, receive feedback, and gain different perspectives from their peers. The group setting fosters a sense of community and helps members develop social skills, cope with stress, and improve interpersonal relationships. Commonly used to address a range of issues, including mental health disorders, addiction, and trauma, group therapy can be an effective complement to individual therapy.

Expressive Arts Groups

In this therapeutic setting, individuals use creative arts, such as painting, drawing, music, dance, or writing, to explore and express their emotions, experiences, and struggles. Guided by a trained therapist, participants engage in various artistic activities to enhance self-awareness, process complex feelings, and promote healing. This non-verbal form of therapy allows individuals to communicate in ways that words may not capture, fostering emotional release and personal insight. Expressive Art Groups in rehab provide a supportive environment that encourages creativity, self-expression, and connection with others on the path to recovery.

Exercise

ExerciseExercise: Exercise offers numerous benefits in drug rehab, playing a crucial role in the recovery process. Key advantages include:

  1. Physical Health Improvement: Enhances overall fitness, boosts the immune system, and repairs damage caused by substance abuse.
  2. Mental Health Benefits: Reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, improves mood through the release of endorphins, and helps manage stress.
  3. Craving Reduction: Lowers drug cravings by regulating brain chemistry and providing a healthy alternative to substance use.
  4. Routine and Structure: Establishes a daily routine, promoting discipline and time management.
  5. Social Interaction: Encourages socialization and builds a supportive community.
  6. Self-Esteem and Confidence: Boosts self-esteem through goal setting and achievement.
  7. Better Sleep: Improves sleep patterns disrupted by addiction.

Incorporating exercise into rehab programs can significantly enhance physical and emotional well-being, supporting long-term recovery.

Yoga

Summer is a Great Time to Start Exercising for Your Recovery

Yoga can be a valuable tool in addiction recovery, offering multiple benefits that support the healing process:

  1. Stress Reduction: Yoga practices, including breathing exercises and meditation, help lower stress levels, which can reduce the urge to use substances as a coping mechanism.
  2. Emotional Regulation: Enhances mindfulness and self-awareness, allowing individuals to better manage their emotions and triggers.
  3. Physical Health: Improves overall physical health, increasing strength, flexibility, and vitality, which can counteract the physical toll of addiction.
  4. Mental Clarity: Promotes mental clarity and focus, helping individuals make better decisions and stay committed to their recovery goals.
  5. Inner Peace: Yoga fosters a sense of inner peace and well-being, which can replace the temporary relief sought through substances.
  6. Community Support: Yoga classes provide a supportive community, reducing feelings of isolation and offering social connections.
  7. Coping Skills: Teaches healthy coping mechanisms for dealing with cravings and stress.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative TherapyThis form of psychotherapy focuses on helping individuals reshape their personal stories to create more empowering and positive narratives. Key elements include:

  1. Externalization: Separating the person from their problems, viewing issues as separate entities rather than inherent flaws.
  2. Re-authoring: Encouraging individuals to explore alternative stories that highlight their strengths, achievements, and values.
  3. Deconstructing Dominant Narratives: Challenging and unpacking societal or cultural narratives that may contribute to a person’s issues.
  4. Empowerment: Fostering a sense of agency and control over one’s life story.

Narrative therapy helps clients see their problems from a new perspective, empowering them to make positive changes and create a more hopeful and resilient identity.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a combination of treatment methods that was developed in the 1960s. CBT allows clients to recall their experiences with the help of their therapist to receive assistance in finding solutions for their negative thoughts and emotional responses. This process gives them tools to make behavioral changes. Clients look at the relationship between their thoughts and emotions and their cravings and behaviors around their drug of choice with the therapist’s help.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness helps addiction treatment by promoting present-moment awareness and acceptance, reducing impulsive behaviors, and increasing emotional regulation. Through practices like meditation and deep breathing, individuals learn to observe their thoughts and cravings without judgment, decreasing the power of urges and triggers. Mindfulness enhances self-awareness, allowing individuals to identify and address underlying issues contributing to addiction. It also reduces stress, anxiety, and depression, which are often linked to substance abuse. By fostering a non-reactive and compassionate attitude towards oneself, mindfulness supports long-term recovery, helping individuals develop healthier coping mechanisms and a more balanced, resilient mindset.

Psycho-educational Workshops

Workshops, Psycho-educational WorkshopsThese workshops for addiction treatment are structured sessions designed to educate individuals about addiction, its effects, and strategies for recovery. They provide information on the psychological, physical, and social aspects of substance abuse. Participants learn about the science of addiction, coping mechanisms, relapse prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices. The goal is to enhance self-awareness, empower individuals with knowledge, and develop practical skills for managing addiction. By fostering a better understanding of their condition, clients can make informed decisions, adopt healthier behaviors, and build a supportive network, ultimately aiding in their recovery journey.

Neuro-counseling

This emerging approach in addiction treatment integrates principles of neuroscience with traditional counseling techniques to address the brain’s role in addiction. This approach may include one or more of the following:

  1. Neuroplasticity: Understanding and leveraging the brain’s ability to rewire itself through new experiences and behaviors to support recovery.
  2. Biofeedback and Neurofeedback: Using technology to monitor and train brain activity, helping individuals learn to regulate their physiological responses.
  3. Psychoeducation: Educating clients about how addiction affects brain function and how recovery can heal these changes.
  4. Mindfulness and Cognitive Techniques: Employing strategies to enhance self-awareness, improve emotional regulation, and modify maladaptive thought patterns.
  5. Holistic Integration: Combining neurobiological insights with therapeutic practices to tailor interventions that address both the mind and brain.

Neuro-counseling aims to provide a deeper understanding of addiction’s impact on the brain, promoting more effective, personalized treatment strategies and supporting sustainable recovery.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma TherapyTrauma therapy for addiction treatment focuses on addressing the underlying trauma that often contributes to substance abuse. It helps individuals process and heal from past traumatic experiences that may fuel their addiction. Techniques such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Somatic Experiencing are commonly used. Trauma therapy aims to reduce the emotional pain and distress associated with trauma, improve coping strategies, and break the cycle of self-medication through substances. By resolving trauma, individuals can achieve better emotional regulation, decrease relapse risk, and support long-term recovery from addiction.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential TherapyThis therapy for addiction treatment involves engaging in activities that help individuals explore and process emotions, behaviors, and experiences in a hands-on, immersive way. Techniques include art therapy, music therapy, adventure therapy, role-playing, and animal-assisted therapy. These activities facilitate self-discovery, emotional expression, and insight into underlying issues contributing to addiction. Experiential therapy helps individuals break through defenses, build trust, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. By experiencing and reflecting on these activities, clients can gain new perspectives, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen their commitment to recovery, making it a valuable complement to traditional talk therapy.

Spirituality

Spirituality therapy involves integrating spiritual practices and beliefs to support recovery. It focuses on fostering a sense of connection, purpose, and meaning beyond oneself. Practices may include meditation, prayer, mindfulness, and exploring personal beliefs. Spirituality therapy helps individuals find inner peace, strength, and resilience by addressing existential questions and providing a framework for understanding their experiences. This approach encourages self-reflection, forgiveness, and the development of a supportive community. By nurturing the spiritual dimension, individuals can enhance their emotional well-being, reduce feelings of isolation, and build a foundation for long-term recovery from addiction.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical Behavioral TherapyDBT is based on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and treats high-risk behaviors, such as chronic suicidal ideation and severe mental health conditions. Studies have shown that DBT is a practical approach for clients who are motivated to change their coping methods. Clients from multiple backgrounds (age, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation) can benefit from DBT. The main difference between CBT and DBT is that DBT focuses on accepting and validating uncomfortable feelings rather than working around or avoiding them.  Dialectical behavior therapy focuses on the client’s lack of crucial life skills to cope with ups and downs. For this reason, DBT sessions focus on teaching the participants those skills. DBT includes teaching clients the skills they need to cope with life. The therapy gives clients techniques they can use in their personal lives, and the therapist supports the client in improving these skills.

12-step Integration Upon Request

12-step Integration Upon Request12-step therapy for addiction treatment is a structured program based on the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and other 12-step groups. It involves following a series of steps designed to promote recovery through personal accountability, spiritual growth, and peer support. Participants admit powerlessness over addiction, seek help from a higher power, and make amends for past wrongs. Regular meetings provide a supportive community where members share experiences and offer mutual support. The 12-step approach encourages ongoing self-reflection, responsibility, and commitment to sobriety, helping individuals build a sustainable recovery foundation and maintain long-term sobriety.
